When craving for Prime Rib, We come here to satisfy our cravings. I normally order the San Mateo cut with linguini and cream of corn as my sides. I usually order mom the Salmon with cream of spinach and cream of corn as her sides. Their Prime Rib is not bad. And their salmon was not dry. Not as good as House of Prime but not bad. Would I come back. Definitely.

My family just ate here last night to celebrate my 11 year old's birthday. I missed the deadline to make a reservation at House of Prime Rib, their favorite restaurant, so I figured San Mateo Prime was the next best thing. It's much closer to us and parking is much easier. The menu is very similar to House of Prime Rib...you order an entrée, and it includes a salad and choice of two sides as well as a popover. The salad was not spun in front of us, but it was very good. My younger child doesn't eat salad, so I indulged in two plates of the house salad. I opted for The Avenue Cut of prime rib, which is 12 oz, creamed corn and creamed spinach. The meat was cooked well; it was tender and was delicious with the au jus. I liked that they offered a spicy and nonspicy horseradish. I was disappointed in the creamed spinach though. I'm not sure if they added too much cornstarch or what, but it was way too thick. The creamed corn tasted fine. The popover was a highlight though! I loved tearing it and dipping it into the au jus! I was very disappointed with the dessert options. They didn't even give us a menu; there were only three options - cheesecake, tiramisu and crème brulee (none of which appealed to the birthday kid). The desserts menu online offers nine different things! I even asked if they had ice cream, and they declined. I would've brought a cake in had I known. I ordered the crème brulee so we could at least sing happy birthday. It was fine and it was complimentary so I can't complain, but my child didn't enjoy it sadly. Everyone in my party ordered prime rib and seemed to enjoy it. There was something inedible in my mom's salad though. When she complained to the manager, he apologized and brought her a new salad right away. Overall, it was an enjoyable meal and service was great. It was just as I predicted...good but not as good as House of Prime Rib!!!

Came here for my bday and glad I decided to come here. My prime-rib was bloody the way I liked it. It was so tender and flavorful. I loved their free salad and bread. The pop over was yummy too. The crab dip is a must. Steve our server was very friendly and nice. He checks in on us regularly to make sure we are well taken care of. There are street parking and parking lot near by so parking is not an issue. The restaurant was not bright so it gives a romantic feel so if you are looking for a nice place for a special occasion this is the place. Honestly after eating the salad and the breads I'm half full so I ended up packing half of my meat and my baked potato home for lunch the next day. Definitely will come back when I'm craving a piece of bloody meat.

Reservations for a party of 12. Seated right away and had the private room upstairs. Service was a bit slow in the beginning but may have been waiting for all party to arrive. Once drinks were ordered, service was fast. Nice private area with a tv but unusually warm so windows were opened. Salad was cold and perfect, prime rib and filet minon were delicious. Loved how the dirty martini was shaken right in front of me and extra poured in sep glass. Prefer the extra to be kept in shaker so that it's kept cold. But all good. Thanks Simon Says! We're sure he got his workout going up and down those stairs!
